About
I created this journal so that I could talk, vent, give examples, work out and whatever else I feel like writing about at the time. I have kept a journal on LJ for nearly 6 years. That journal has been my way to vent about my troubles and just talk about what was (is) going on in my life. For this journal, however, I will keep it strictly for posting teacher/teaching/student related things.
Since I hope that people will be reading this I thought it best to introduce myself.
I went to Cal State Northridge (CSUN) for my undergraduate Bachelor’s degree. I received it in January 2007 in Journalism. While I was finishing my degree I decided that rather than writing professionally for a newspaper or magazine I’d be better off teaching. In 2004 I began a job as a teacher’s assistant. It was during that first year that I made my decision. I tried to switch my major to liberal studies but it was too late in the game for that. So I finished my BA and planned to begin the traditional credential program once I finished my BA.
It took me 3 semesters and a summer to complete my teaching credential. I did my student teaching in Kindergarten and in 4th grade; both were very good experiences. Although I believe my 3 years as a teacher’s assistant gave me more experience and more knowledge to become a teacher than my 18 weeks being a student teacher did.
I was granted my credential in June 2008 by the CDC. I have been applying for teaching jobs since I finished classes in May 2008. However, in this economy it’s been very difficult. I had one interview but was not chosen for the position. I now got a job to be a tutor for a well known tutoring company. It’s part time work but it has flexible hours and it’s a good environment. It will also help with my resume and padding it a little bit with more experience.

GOOD LUCK. I teach at an LAUSD new high school. One of our Special Ed teachers in a D.I. Even the DI program is sort of on hold this month. This teacher wants to work with elementary but since the hiring freeze, she had to settle with high school special ed with NO specific training in English or Social Science which is what she’ doing.
I wish you the best, and if you ever sub for high schools in the Hollywood area, email me, I know that since we are a new school we are trying to build our preferred sub list.
